Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: Google’s Latest Flagship Marvels

In the fast-paced world of smartphones, Google has always managed to make a significant impact with its Pixel series. The recently unveiled Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are no exceptions. These devices are a testament to Google’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology, top-notch cameras, and an unparalleled Android experience. Let’s delve deeper into what makes the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro such remarkable additions to the smartphone market. Source: Google

Design and Build Quality:

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are elegantly designed with softer silhouettes, beautiful metal finishes and recycled materials.

  • Pixel 8, with its contoured edges and smaller size than Pixel 7, feels great in your hand. It has a 6.2-inch Actua display, which gives you real-world clarity and is 42% brighter than Pixel 7’s display. Pixel 8 features satin metal finishes, a polished glass back and comes in Rose, Hazel and Obsidian.
  • Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.7-inch Super Actua display features our brightest display yet. So even in direct sunlight, you’ll love how true-to-life your Ultra HDR images look. It also has a matte glass back with a polished aluminum frame and comes in three colors: Porcelain, Bay and Obsidian.
  • And on the back of the Pixel 8 Pro, a new temperature sensor lets you quickly scan an object to get its temperature. Use it to check if your pan is hot enough to start cooking or if the milk in your baby’s bottle is at the right temperature. We’ve also submitted an application to the FDA, to enable Pixel’s Thermometer App to take your temperature and save it to Fitbit.

Display:

The Google Pixel 8 boasts an upgraded 6.2-inch OLED Actua display that Google claims delivers sharp colours and vivid details, while a faster 120Hz refresh rate allows the Pixel 8 to better compete with the 120Hz-enabled competition – something found at even the cheap end of the Android market. If you want an adaptive refresh rate, however, you’ll have to fork out for the Pixel 8 Pro and its larger 6.7-inch OLED Actua display, boasting LTPO tech that allows it to drop down to as little as 1Hz to save on battery life – an improvement on the 10Hz of the 7 Pro.

Performance:

As far as its specs go, both phones are using the new Tensor G3 chipset, which looks to improve efficiency, performance, and AI capabilities. It’s paired with 8GB of RAM on the regular phone and 12GB on the Pro. Similarly, the smaller device comes with just 128GB or 256GB of storage, while the larger model offers both of those sizes as well, along with upgrades to 512GB or 1TB options. Unfortunately, both phones are still using UFS 3.1 storage, not the faster, newer UFS 4.0 storage seen on Samsung’s higher end smartphones.

Camera System:

One of the standout features of the Pixel series has always been its camera capabilities, and the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are no exceptions. Google’s prowess in computational photography shines through, with enhancements like improved Night Sight, Astrophotography Mode, and advanced AI algorithms. The Pixel 8 features a dual-camera system, while the 8 Pro boasts a triple-camera setup with a telephoto lens, making it a versatile choice for photography enthusiasts. –

Battery Life:

Pixel 8 boasts a 4575mAh battery whereas the 8 Pro comes with a larger 5050mAh battery. What’s also been bumped up, besides the battery capacities, are the charging speeds. The regular 8 now supports 27W charging whereas the Pro can take 30W. The wireless charging speeds are also bumped to 18W and 23W, respectively, which is great since Pixels are probably still the slowest in terms of charging.

Software:

Google announced  to providing seven years of software support for Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, including Android OS upgrades, security updates and regular Feature Drops. That means your Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be supported all the way into 2030. No major smartphone brand offers this committed level of support and longevity. This makes these phones a more sustainable smartphone choice, because they’ll be secure and perform well for seven years.

Connectivity:

Both the devices have Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and USB Type-C. The USB-C port this time around is not just any regular Type-C port that charges and has slow data transfers but a USB 3.2, meaning Pixels can now output a display signal that users can use to connect their devices to external displays or even external accessories like AR Glasses.

Conclusion:

In a crowded smartphone market, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro stand out as solid contenders. Google’s focus on camera excellence, coupled with top-notch hardware and software, makes these phones an enticing choice for both Android purists and those seeking a reliable daily driver. Whether you’re a photography enthusiast, a power user, or someone who values a clean Android experience, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are worth considering as your next smartphone upgrade. With their exceptional build quality, stunning displays, and impressive camera systems, they’re bound to make a mark in the world of flagship smartphones.
